CHRISTCHURCH DRAINAGE BOARD.
* A meeting of the Christchurch, Drainage Board was held yesterday afternoon; present —Messrs J. Deans (chairman), R. M. Taylor, E. Smith, G. M’lntyre, 0. Burgess, E. Samuels and Dr Moorhouse. -Mr John Deans was re-elected chairman. The Treasurer reported receipts amounting to £2066 18s lid, including rates received amounting to £2055 3s 6d. The expenditure wds £653. Outstanding rates were as follows:—1898, £l3 19s 8d; 1899, £126 12s Bd, and 1900, £7768 6s. The rates collected in 1900 amounted to £13,692 2s Bd. The debit balance was £1505 11s. The report was adopted, v The Engineer reported, in reference to the application of the Sydenham Borongh Conncil that the Board take over the storm-water pipe in Palsgrave Street; that the length of the drain was 1641 ft, and the grade one in 454. No manholes had beer, provided. The double gully at .Waltham and Shakspere Heads had been constructed. The following holidays were recommended for the Board’s permanent employees: New gear’s Day, Good Friday, Easter Monday, Queen’s Birthday, Prince o. Wales’s Birthday, Anniversary Day, Christmas Day, Boxing Day and Labour Day. , It was decided that the Board should take over the storm-water pipe in, Fabgrave Street and construct the manholes. The report was 1 then adopted. . Messrs Izard and Loughnan wrote wit! regard to an alleged nuisance at Spensh; and Bell’s Creek. Tie letter was taken ir Committee, and when the Board resumed reported that it had been resolved to consult the Board’s solicitor as to the liability ci the Board in the matter. An application from the Linwood Borough Council for remission of rates was granted. , H. G. Knight wrote, stating that tlr Caledonian Road drain, St Albans, was in. an insanitary state and creating a nuisance. The engineer reported that piping was nopossible, as there was no fall, and that <■ concrete drain was necessary. It was ac cordingly decided to put in a concrete drain . W. Lake wrote, asking the Board to den 1 I with his letter of Nov. 12, so as to authcjXise the execution of the necessary deed of ;easement as soon as it could be prepared bv the Board’s solicitor. The request wa : granted, and the Chairman was authorised 'to sign the deed. The Sydenham Borough Council wrote, istating that complaint had been made of joffensive smells arising from the sewer grat jing at the corner of Waltham Road an- : STaylor Street, and asking that the Board Would have the connection with the sew-; ■trapped. The Engineer was instructed U report on the matter. r Messrs Izard and Loughnan wrote, on b 'half of Mr S. Accounts amounting to £653 were passed for payment. The Finance and Works Committees were re-elected. • This concluded the business, and the Board adjourned.
