Peter Thompson and Arthur Hood were each fined 10s, in default forty-eight hours’ impriscinmenb, the latter, at Ms own request, having a prohibition order issued against himself.—Mary M’Kegney was-,ordered to make another sojourn of three months at the Samaritan Home. ; Alleged Indecent Offence. James James, for whom Mr Cassidy appeared, was charged with having, on Jan. 2, at Lyttelton, committed an ■ indecent offence. On the application of Sub-Inspector Black, the accused-was remanded until Jan. 22, bail being refused. Breach of Prohibition Order.—James Gibb, wbo pleaded guilty to Having been found upon the licensed premises of the Star Hotel at Addington on Dec. 22, was fined 20s and costs. Maintenance.—Julia Smith asked for maintenance for herself and child from her husband, John Thomas Smith. He, however, proved. Ms inability to pay,, and the case was dismissed. —On the application, of Agnes Fluerty, a separation order was, granted against her husband, Robert Fluerty, who was ordered to pay 20s a week towards the support of her and her children. —William John Wilding was ordered to pay 10s towards the support of his wife and 3s 4d a week towards each of his children.

Horse at Large. —On the information of J. Watson, Stock Ranger, Mrs H. Henry, for allowing a horse to be at large in the borough, was fined ss, and 7s costs. Rescuing Cattle.— Jonathan Bell was charged by the same informant with having, on Dec. 19, rescued! four head of cattle seized by the Ranger to be impounded. The prosecutor stated that he found four cows at large near Bell’s Railway Station, and took them to impound. Defendant shortly afterwards came up, but refused to pay Is driving fed demanded, and took the cattle away. Two sons of prosecutor corroborated his evidence. Defendant stated"that he was driving a horse to the field with the cows, but the horse made off in a contrary direction, and he had to go after it, and he sent two little boys to take charge of the Cows. He refused to pay the Is because he considered Watson had no right to demand it. The Magistrate said undoubtedly defendant rescued the cattle, and rendered himself liable to a penalty of £SO. He would! be fined £l' and costs. Civil Case. —Miss A. Wycherley v. R. M. Momo, claim £l4 5s sd, part amount of a forged cheque for £l6 14s Bd, cashed by plaintiff. Sergeant Johnston stated that defendant was serving a sentence in gaol for forging the cheque, and a sum of £9 recovered from him was being held by the Inspector of Police.'. This would be available to" partly satisfy plaintiff’s claim. Judgment was given for the amount claimed, with 15s costs, and immediate execution. OXFORD. Monday, Jan. 14. (Before Mr H. S. I,y Threatening Language.— Frank Garlick was charged with having used threatening and abusive- language towards W. Ivory, Poundkeeper and Ranger.
