JUBILEE EXHIBITION.

NOTES. - - At the entrance to Sir George Seymour Avenue, the . Globe Packing Company (Messrs Chrystaill and Co., proprietors) show a fine .assortment"of their various lines. Rising tier upon tier are bottles of sauces, vinegar, salad oil, fluid ammonia, curry powder and flavouring, essences ; .packets of arrowroot, black lead, blue, and tea, and bags of sell-raising flour, the artistic grouping .and-.gaily coloured labelsmaking, together, an_ exhibit of exceptional merit and interest. Every line displayed is manufactured and put up by the company in , Christchurch, and proof of their excellence as demonstrated oy the great demand .existing m all parts of Canterbury for these goods. . The firm does not confine its operations to this province alone, on the contrary, large quantities are despatched by rail., and steamer to all parts of the colony. Until a comparatively short time ago the public were almost entirely dependent upon Borne and foreign mamuacturers for their supplies of blue, black lead, vinegar, etc., but the locally-made goods are now steadily ousting the imported article. The gymnastic tournament which was opened last, night drew a good house at the Canterbury Hall. Professor P. Byrhe acted as judge, and Messrs W. Evans and G. J- Ward, as, umpires. The competitions for the Roman rings brought 1 out two teams, St Luke’s and Wellington, and both teams gave very good exhibitions. The members of each team were rather uneven, two or three of the leaders standing out prominently. So far as could be gathered,; the performances of both teams were fairly even. In the dumbbell' competition, three teams faced the judge—-the Fendalton, St Luke’s and, the, .Wellington ladies’ team. The ladies’ team did splendid work, although the work chosen, which was optional, was not quite of .such.an exacting nature muscMaily . that-, given ,by , the 'male teams. Some excellent-work’was shown by the Wellington, St. Luke’s, and Fendalton teams in the parallel bar competition, The results will not be made known until after the close of the competition, which will ba continued to-morrow afternoon and evening. - . This evening a concert, arranged by Miss Scrivenor, will take 1 place.
