CHRISTCHURCH y. KAIAPOt r -The return game between Christchurch and Kaiapoi was played on the west- ground ■ at Lancaster Park. At the commencement Kaiapoi hadi much the best .of the play. D,. hfGregor, from a pass by Green, reached the goal line, and Christchurch was forced. Rice, and Parry went right down the field, where Martin kicked' into touch. Albion kicked off from the east against the sum, and fixed play at Merivale’s quarter-flag, but the Merivale forwards • rushed the ball out at ' the centre, and, continuing the rush, Drake. ’ was able to dribble over the line, but Waftwo relieved by kicking over tie dead-ball Jine, Maebin ran. to Merivale’s, quarters, n scrum was formed, and Weston passed to Gray, who dashed over at the comer, but Lavsry failed to convert. Wilson dribbled away from the scrum, and) out at the quarterflag, where Burrell failed to kick a penalty goal, but Marriner and Drake dribbled over the line and; forced Albion. -A passing rush between Robson, Gillespie and Gray brought play out near the Merivale line, and the Albion forwards rushed over, but -Burrell forced. Marinin got the ball, from V the scrum through Weston amd Robson, but was collared by Menzies, who, however, rl _. let him go, and he • scored .easahr. near: the posts, Lavexy converted. A forward rush ’ by the Blacks and an interchange of kicks centred play jnst at half-time. After the kick out the Merivale forwards drove play to their, opponents’ line, but off-side play prevented a score. Some time alter this, ■ however, the Merivale forwards, headed by Crosbie, Fraser and Cooke, forced Albion.

r. SYDENHAM. Sydenham 'cardinal and blue) kicked off against the sun, and. Lin.wood, {green and , .black) soon went to the attack, and a loose rush sent the play to Sydenham’s end, aid ' the Cardinals were forced from a good , penalty attempt at goal by Revell, Sydenham then assumed the aggressive, and good , . footwork by M’Naanara and 'Gerard sent the ['■l ball out at Linwood’s corner. Phillips and F. O’Brien relieved to the centre, and Watcon headed a sweeping loose rush to Sydenham's line. The ball was eventually rushed over, and the Cardinals were forced. They lost the hall near Linwood’s line, but O'Brien, backing up, dribbled ' over and Reese converted: The Green backs retaliated with several passing rushes, one '• -'. : of which almost ended in a score; HalfV- time : was called ' with play in Sydenham’s ■ comer. When the game was resumed, the ’ ' Cardinals', speedily rushed to their oppbr, - 1 neats’ line, and Phillips saved with diffi-. culty by kicking out at the-comer. The Cardinals, in turn, commenced a'"fresh assault on the Greens’, line, hut Campbell intercepted a pass, and shifted play to the centre. Lyttelton First won its. match against Kaiapoi, Second by default. The match-between the Sydenham and Linwood Junior Flag teams was played at Sydenham, and, after a very even contest, Sydenham won by six .points (two tries, scored by W.'Walsh and J. Milne) to three (a penalty goal, placed by W. Howell). Mr H. Hooper was.referee. Merivale and Richmond met at Richmond, and after an . interesting game the former won by twenty points to nil. For the winners, Webster, Chamberlain, .Cornish and Fraser scored tries, and Garrard converting one each. Brewer also placed a goal from a mark. -- Mr G. S. Simpson was referee. , , PRESIDENT’S CUPOwing to the illness, of-’several players, the Boys’ 'High - School 1 was unable to put a team in the 1 -field, and its match against Sydenham C went to the latter team by default. OTHER MATCHES. ■ A match between ■Strange’s* team and the Imperial Club, played on Saturday, resulted in a draw, neither side scoring. The Primrose Club defeated the Moa dub by twenty-five -points to nil.. A match played between the Waiwersu and East Christchurch teams resulted in a win for the former by -.thirty points, to nil For the Waiwera team, tries were scored by Chappie (5), Ford (:|, Soanes and Hogwood. Melrose defeated Sandridge by six points to nil. Two tries were'scored by G. Pearce. The Secretary of the Pirates Football .Club, Asliburtou, has been instructed to arrange a match with the Dunsandel Club, at Ashburton, on July ,12, and one with the Springbum Club and-a second fifteen on the following Thursday. The club’s annual ball will be held on August-1.

PRIMARY SCHOOLS REPRESENTATIVE MATCH.

WELLINGTON v. NORTH CANTERBURY.

, A large number of little folk assembled at Lancaster Park on Saturday to see the match between teams representing the Wellington and North Canterbury Primary Schools, and their continued cheering added excitement to the game. In weight the competing teams were about even, but the local boys, were slightly heavier, in the forwards. .Canterbury started badly. The forwards played with no dash, .and the backs fumbled jwretphediy. A; loose rush took the ball to the Canterbury line, where EUas picked up -and dashed over. No-goal resulted. Canterbury now livened .up, and played a vigorous forward game. Good kicking sent the i ball to the Wellington end, and in the scramble that ensued Weir picked up and darted over. Close failed with the kick at goal. In the second spell the play was very even.. The local forwards performed well in the loose, and the visiting backs gave good passing displays at times. The match, then ended in a draw, each team having scared three points. Mr W. G. Garrard was referee.
