. . . ■ The Mayor'ias received the following further subscriptions for the Indian’Famine Fund:—Mrs Hawdon £l, Miss Hawdur Ritchie Is. The Mayor also acknowledges the receipt of offertory and contributions from Christ> \ College, per the Rev F. A'. Hare, amounting to £l7 18s Bd.
. The ladies, on Haniner Plains gave-a .dance at the Sanatorium at Hanmer Springs, oa, Thursday in aid of the fund. An open -invi- ■ tation had been given to all the residents oa the Plains, and the collection taken up dur- , ■trig the evening amounted to £3 18s sd. , Light refreshments wore provided. 1 1 The,' dance, besides being a financial success, 1 , brought,the -people,' together,",-and. them to.spend a very pleasant evening. The. children at the school collected the gum of £l, Is 9d, which is a comparatively large dona* tion, considering that there are only'seven- I teen scholars at the school, and that most of v them are'young.
