TEMPERANCE ADDRESS

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —"A Resident of St: Michael's" has asked, through your columns, if the Vicar of St Matthew's, St Albans, could give a temperance sermon in St Michael's Church on any Sunday evening, or an address in the school room on any week day. If the reverend gentleman is asked by the Vicar of St Michael'sj I am quite sure he would be pleased to do so, and the congregation would reap a great benefit froin such a sermon or address. I have heard several addresses on tie temperance question; deliver-ed by the Rev Williams, and have always, received a great benefit therefrom. It is, indeed, a question that should be preached and taught more from our church pulpits than it is, and one that will be demanded and appreciated by a church congregation for the future. Hoping that all clergymen of the Church of England in this diocese will give this subject their attention, and, at least, once in three months, will preach a' temperance sermon in each of their parish churches.—l am, etc>> A CHURCHMAN.
