CHARGE OF MURDER.

[Per Press Association.] WELLINGTON, March 23. In the Magistrate’s Court this afternoon, the hearing of the charge preferred again-st John Heighten of murdering his infantdaughter began. Mr Jellicoe defended accused. Dr Mackin, who examined the body after the murder was reported, was the only witness examined, and a further adjournment was made for a week. The greater portion of the afternoon was occupied in argument as to the admission of certain notes made by Dr Mackin, and statements to him by accused. There were ops. or two sharp passages between the Magistrate and Mr Jellicoe, the latter at one time threatening to withdraw from the case, but eventually he, cooled down on Mr Haselden, S.M., saying that he was not going to he terrified that way.
