After a quarter of a mile had been covered Paladin, while still leading, fell, Emerson escaping unhurt, and Nihilist was left in charge, with Jupiter, Fulmen and Djin Djin following in the order named. At the haltmile post Jupiter began to close on Nihilist, and the pair approached the home turn in company, while FulnJen made a forward move. With heads turned for home a capital set-to was witnessed. Jupiter gradually forged to the front, while King made a determined effort to bring Fulmen up on the inside, but failed. Jupiter defeated Nihilist by a length lor first place a similar distance separating the latter from Fulmen. Djin Djin was fourth. Time—2min 17 2-ssec. Dividend—£3 12s. The Spinner and other horses hung at the post, and Corusa did not moke any attempt to join in the race. Paladin was never headed and won easiily.
