LAND BOARD.

A meeting of the Canterbury Land Board was held on Thursday; present —Messrs Sidney Weetman (Commissioner of Crown Lands), J. M’Lachlan, M.H.R., R. Meredith, M.H.R., and D. M’Millan. The following applications for land were considered:—W. H. Wright, Block XII., Tamai Settlement, lease in perpetuity; granted. J. C. M’Caw, Block X., Wharenui, lease in perpetuity; granted. H. A. Adley, Block 11., Hanmer Springs Township, 42 years' lease ; granted. Annie Anderson, Block XVI., Pawaho, temporary lease; granted. P. J. Wain, Blocks XVI., IX,. XDL, Hakateramea and Waiho, small grazing run; granted conditionally. H. Rose, Purnaroa Settlement, lease in perpetuity ; deferred for further information. A freehold title to J. Ritchie, for. Lots 102103, Reserve 550, Rangitata, was approved. Applications for transfers of leases and licenses were approved as follow:—W. B. Morgan to. J. Fleming, grazing farm, Phoebe Village Block, Cheviot; Public Trustee to W. Munro, leases V 262 and V 307, M’Keuzie suburbs; H. G. Peak to R. Norrie, leaise V 576, Block VII, CheviotSurvey . District. Several transfers by way of mortgage were approved. An application for the transfer of a splitting license at Gammon’s Creek, West Oxford, from Vallance and Stephenson to A. Smith and W. Woods, was approved. An application for transfer from the Public Trustee in the estate of William Gunn to J. D. Shirley, Lot 60, Highbank Settlement, lease in perpetuity, was recommended to the Minister of Lands for approval. Crown Lands Rangers’ reports;—On Cheviot Bush section—lt was resolved to offer the land for lease for a term of fourteen years as a grazing farm, at a rental of 2s 6d per acre per annum, subject to sawrnilling rights. On forfeited lease V. 522, lot 15, Greenpark—lt was resolved to defer steps for re-offering the land. On dealing with unsold sections in Glenavy townsnip —lt was resolved to offer the lands for lease for terms of seven years, hy public tender, the upset rentals to be at the rate of, 5 per cent on cash values of the land. On forfeited leas-e in perpetuity, lot 47, Albury settlement, it was resolved to reoffer the land.

A memorandum from the Surveyor-Gene-ral advised that the Minister of Lands could not see his way to approve of the sale of R.S. 36634, Block VII., Okain’s survey district, to the adjoining owner, Mr Dalgleish. A communication from the Surveyor-Gene-Uil approved of the renewal to the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile' Agency of a three years’ license in- the Mount Torlesse Forest Reserves ' and Crown land from March 1, 1900, at- a rental of £3O per annum. The renewal of the license for run No. 191, 370 acres, Spaxton survey district, was approved for a year, to the New Zealand Alford Forest Estate Company. The Geraldine Churchwardens were a temporary tenancy of part of the Waihi Riverbed adjoining the church and driiished at a rental of 10s per annum. Proposals by the Waipara and Wakanui Road Boards for the expenditure of thirds and fourths were considered and approved. The'lessee of lot 22, Block IV., Cheviot survey district, J. W. Harrison, was granted leave of absence during his service in South Africa with the Third Contingent. Several applications for extension of time were considered and granted, and a few forfeitures were enforced. The Commissioner of Crown Lands laid before the Board a schedule of arrears of rents due on March 22, 1900. It was resolved that all tenants should be required to pay by March 31.
