THE RIVAL CABLES.

MR CRICK’S AMENDMENTS,

United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. MELBOURNE, March 22.

The Manager of the Eastern Extension Company wired to the Postmaster-General, stating that if the draft agreement was altered so as not to prevent the company competing with any private cable company before the Pacific cable was laid, the company would agree to Mr Crick’s proposed amendments. The Postmaster-General, in reply, refused to consent. He considered that the Eastern Extension Company’s interests would be adequately safeguarded if the Australian Governments were to guarantee that no terminal facilities should be granted to any other company before they were given to the Eastern Extension Company.
