The death is announced of Admiral Fairfax of apoplexy, at Naples aged sixty-three. (Admiral Sir Henry Fairfax, K.C.8., F.R.G.S., was the son of Colonel Sir Henry Fairfax, Bart. He was bom in 1837, and entered the navy in 1850. His first memorable service was in the Amphitrite, in which he went two voyages to Behring Strait and the Arctic Sea. He also saw service against the slave traders of the African coast. He was promoted commander in 1862 for gallantry exhibited in capturing a slaver, and captain in 1872. In 1877 he took over the command of the Britannia, and personally superintended the studies of Prince Albert Victor and Prince George of Wales, who were then on board as cadets. In 1881 he became aide-de-camp to the Queen. He took part in the bombardment of Alexandria, and commanded the naval and marine forces landed at Port Said m 1882 to preserve order there. He was promoted rear-admiral in 1885, and in 1887 he was appointed to the command of the Australian station. He returned to England in 1889, and became a Lord Commissioner of the Admiralty. He commanded the Red Fleets in the manoeuvres of 1892 and 1893, and was in command of the Channel Fleet from 1892 to 1894.)
