ENTERTAINMENTS.

A very interesting lecture was given in the social room of the Wools ton Library on Tuesday evening 'by the Rev T. A. Meyer. The subject was South Africa and the Transvaal War.” The lecturer gave an historical review fox the last hundred years of the Dutchmen nr Boers, their manners and customs, and the action of the English in trying to subdue the natives, but not to exterminate them, as the Boers wanted to do. The anniversary of the Oxford Terrace Baptist Church was celebrated last evening. A tea meeting was held at 6 p.m. At 7.45 2i. m. a -public meeting was held in the church. Mr H. Purdy occupied the chair, and addresses were given by the Rev F. W. Isitt and the Rev Ji J. Doke. The Secretary reported that steady work had been done during the whole year. The Treasurer reported that about £SOO had already been promised towards the reduction of the debt on the building, and the hope was expressed that a large sum would be the result of the Jubilee effort. The reports were adopted. The choir gave musical items during the evening, and Mr Sorrell sang a -sacred song. Mrs Graham presided at the organ.
