ENTERTAINMENTS
A social gathering of the Christchurch Hardware-Club was held on Tuesday evening at the Caledonian rooms. The early part ,of the-evening was spent in progressive euchre, and the latter in songs and recitations by different members of the dub. Mr J. dark was chairman. -fleas a* good attendance at the social gathering of the Canterbury Caledonian Society last night. Mr J. Connal, vicepresident, was in the chair. A musical programme was given, under the direction of Messrs Wallace, Nea.ve and Sutherland, gongs were sung by Mrs Anderson, Misses Buchanan and Mary Neil, and. Messrs Wylie, E, Barber and A. Young. A violin solo was played by Mr J. P. Cliff, a clarionet duet by Miss and Mr J. Sinclair, selections by Mr D. Sinclair’s orchestra, and recitations were given by Mr Ryan. Miss YFLean. played the pianoforte accompaniments. A short programme of dancing followed the concert.
The-Canterbury Athletic and-Cycling'Chib held /a very successful progressive euchre tournament in the dub rooms last evening. Forty part, the winner being Mr Harry Thompson, who received as first prize a handsome walking, stick, and the second prize, a silver matchbox, was won by Mr G. Biltdiff. The booby’s prize fell to. Mr H. Hoolt.
