Russell will give, a public address at eight o’clock this evening, in the Assembly Room, Hobbs ! s Buildings. The subject will be “ Liberal Progress in the Colony During Recent Years.” , The subject of Mrs Cunnington’s lecture to-night will be “Chaldea, Babylonia and Egypt.” , ■. A public meeting of St John’s Temperance Society will be held in the schoolroom tomorrow evening at seven o’clock. The installation of Bro W. ’Allan as W.M. of the Ashley Masonic Lodge, Rangiora, will, take place on June 29,‘instead of June 22. A banquet will follow the ceremony. A special meeting of the Lyttelton Harbour Board will beheld at three o’clock on Thursday, June 29, to consider the proposed by-laws, in connection with wharf-, age and pilotage, and the question of licensing vessels-when being : towed with pas; sengers aboard within the limits of the port of Lyttelton. - 1 A meeting of .-the auctioneers of Canterbury will be held'at the Chamber of Commerce at three o’clock on Friday, to consider the proposed amendments to the Auctioneers Act, and other matters of importance.
The Riccarton Juvenile Variety Company will give an entertainment at the Papanui Town Hall at eight o’clock to-morrow ingThe weekly korero of the Savage Club will be held this evening, in the Chamber of Commerce Hall.
