OBITUARY.
GRATTAN RIGGS. United Press Association—By Electric T elegraph—Copyrigh t. HOBART, June 17. Mr Grattan Riggs, the well-known come dian, is dead.
The news of the death of the veteran . actor Mr Grattan Riggs will be received with regret throughout Australasia. His histrionic abilities were of no mean order, and he possessed a heartiness and geniality of character which caused him to be widely esteemed in private life.. He was an Irishman, and excelled in pourtraying Irish character. He was, however, at home in many other roles, as persons who witnessed his performances as the “Irish Detective” will remember. It was in the early eighties that he appeared here in this character, but it was not his only appearance before the public of Christchurch. A few years ago he accompanied the Pollard Opera Company as representative of Messrs Williamson and Musgrove. For over a-year his health had been failing, and his friends were, probably, not surprised at the news of his death.
[From Our Correspondent.] PALMERSTON NORTH, June 17. News has just been received of the death at Albany on June 2 of Mr F. W. Dunderdale, formerly manager of the gasworks here.
