Work on the Kawakawa section (just south of the Poro-Otarao Tunnel) of the Trunk Railway line will shortly be pushed ahead with greater vigour, and a large number of men will he started on the works there. The roads from Otorohanga to Kawhia and other parts of the-King Country recently laid out will also be taken in hand at an early date. It is intended to fell the bush five chains wide on them. Large numbers of men will be employed. The police are keeping a vigilant look-out for sly grog-selling in the King Country. Constable M’Conochie, .stationed at Kuiti, is instituting legal proceedings. At a meeting of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union a deputation was appointed to wait upon the clergymen, to ask them to form committees and urge on their congregations to, co-operate with the Women’s Christian Temperance Union in the coming prohibition campaign.
