SCHOOL COMMITTEES.

The monthly meeting of the West Christchurch School Committee was held on Wednesday evening; present—Messrs W. M’Clea (chairman), G. T. Chisnall, J J Isbister, W. J. Watson, G. Watson, C D Morris, J. H. Jones, and Dr Moorhouse.The tender of Messrs G. M’Clatchie and Co., for the supply of fuel was accepted. Messrs Chisnall and Isbister were appointed the Visiting Committee. Replies to a resolution passed at a householders’ meeting were read from the Minister of Education and Mr T. E. Taylor, M.H.R., and Mr C. Lewis, M.H.R., agreeing’ that there was room for improvement in the method oi electing Boards of Education, and a sub-committee was appointed to discuss the subject with Mr Lewis, he having expressed himself as willing to meet the committee and talk it over with them. Future arrangements for a cookery class with the School of Domestic Instruction were left in the hands of the Chairman and the headmaster. It was agreed to nominate Mr Russell for election on the Board of Governors of CanterburyCollege. Accounts amounting to £2 6s 2d were passed for payment, and the meeting closed. The first meeting of the newly-elected Kaiapoi School Committee was held on Monday evening; present—Messrs Moore (chairman), Peldwick, Coup, Drakeley, Ellen, Clark and Pamham. Correspondence was read from the Board of Education announcing the acceptance of Mr Manhire’s tender for repairs to the master’s and caretaker’s houses. The Visiting Committee’s recommendations relative to certain works were agreed to. Tim sum of £3 13s 4d was passed for payment to the two pupil-teachers who had been engaged by the committee, and the Secretary was instructed to apply to the Board for a refund. Mr Clark gave notice of motion regarding consideration of the subject of attendance prizes. Messrs Feldwick and R. The monthly meeting of the Belfast School Committee was held on Monday evening; present—Messrs Ellis (chairman), M’Cracken, Craig, Anderson, Watson, Morgan, Wotton, Napier, and Spencer. The master reported the attendance at the-begin-ning of the month as 242 for the first week. The average attendance at the side school for the month was 10.2. It was resolved to call for tenders for caretaker for the new infant school. At the monthly moating of the Ric carton School Committee there were present Messrs Hill (chairman), Atkins, Brake, Rowland and Watson. The attendance was reported to be improving. It was decided to establish classes for physical drill with clubs, dumbbells, etc. . •
