CHEVIOT COUNTY SETTLERS' ASSOCIATION.

A meeting of the committee of the Cheviot Settlers' i ssociation was held at M'Kenzie on Saturday evening; Mr G. W. Forbes (president) occupied the chair. Various matters of detail were arranged in connection with the show to be held on Queen's Birthday, 'and it was decided to invite the Right Hon K. J. Seddon to be present at the show. Correspondence was read from residents in various parts of t.ho district from Kailcoura to Christchnrch signifying their intention to be present at the meeting on May 23, to agitate railway construction from Waipara to Cheviot. The agent of the Wakatu stated that should the quantity of grain shipped during the season amount to 20,000 sacks, a rebate of 10 per cent on the freight would be allowed.
