CRICKET.
SOUTH OF ENGLAND v. AUSTRALIA. United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. LONDON, May 9. The match Australia v. the South, of England was continued to-day. Rain fell in the early part of the day, and the weather continued lowering, with a shifting but fairly good light. Gregory gave a vigorous display, and made 11 in one over. Grace replaced Jessop with the ball at 67, and Brockwell went on vice Lockwood at 74. After the luncheon adjournment Lockwood, Townsend and Grace bowled, but the batsmen played in the freest style, being indifferent to all changes. Gregory was missed in the slips when he had made 83, and a moment later gave another chance at the wickets. He was heartily cheered on reaching his century. He batted altogether three hours twenty minutes. Noble showed first-rate cricket throughout, displaying a consistent and taking style. His partnership with Gregory lasted ail hour and forty minutes and produced 141 runs. At tne close of the day's play the Australians had lost eight wickets for 357 runs.
