FIRE.
[Per Press Association.] AUCKLAND, May 9. A fire broke-out at nine o’clock to-night in the -extensivepremises of H. M. Smeeton, grocer, formerly Firth’s old flower mill. The second and third-storeys were filled with general merchandise, and great damage was done. Tho damage done on the ground floor was caused by water only. The loss will run into thousands of pounds. The stock is insured in tho New Zealand, Sun, Norwich Urmia, Manchester, and Liver-, pool and London and Globe offices for over £6OOO. The buildings, which are practically undamaged, are insured for £6OOO in local insurance compamea.
