LAND BOARD.
The Canterbury. Land Board met on Thursday; present—Messrs Sidney Weetmau (Commissioner of Crown Lands), A. C. Pringle, J. M’Laclilan and D. M’Millan. The following applications for land were granted:—William Nixon, Reserve 315, 2a Ir 34p; Reserve 23179, 2a 3r lOp; and Reserve 12489, Block XIII., Leeston survey district, 3r 25p,- Mary Moorhead, Reserve 9543, Block XIII., Leeston survey district, 2a Or 9p ; William H. Brunton, Reserve 8, Block VII., Morven township, 2r. 22p ; George E. Pnvden, Reserve 4, Block VIII., Morven township, 2 acres. Several transfers of leases and licenses were approved. With regard to the Waiau Dip Reserve, it was resolved to adhere to the resolution of April 6, as to the area to be let to Mr J., Coakley; to approve of the reservation of the area applied for by the Stock Department, and of the balance being reserved for the accommodation of travelling stock, and leased by public competition in one block, subject to conditions for the accommodation of stock. Mr H. I. I. Jennings was granted a temporary tenancy of part of the Ashley river-bed, in front of his own land, at a rental to' be .fixed by the ranger, subject to public right of , road over the area. The Eyreton RoadBoard wrote; submitting consent of adjoining owners to tlfe control of part of the bed of the north branch of the Wahnakariri, adjoining Kaiapoi Island, being handed oyer to the Board. It was decided to recomtaehd that' the control of the land, as far as consented to by owners, should be vested ac-. cordingly, The temporary license to Mrs Annie Corcoran of Lot 8, Block 11., Waitaki survey district (WaikakaM), ,203 acres, at an annual rental of £4O l2s was confirmed. It. was also resolved to offer Lots 1 and 2, Block 111., Waitaki survey district (Waikakahi settlement), for occupation for a term of .three years, at rentals based on the capital values ,of the sections. An application by the Rakaia ' Road Board for repayment out of thirds of moneys expended, on the construction of roads in Reserve 288, North Rakaia, was approved. An application by the Mount Peel Road Board for a grant from thirds of R.S. 36092 towards the construction of a bridge over the South Opuha River was granted. A memorandum from the Surveyor-General relative to the case of Wilson v. Canterbury Land Board was laid before the Board, and it was decided to refer the matter to the Crown Solicitor. The reports from the Crown Lands rangers on the various - settlements were read and dealt with. -Other departmental- business was transacted, and the Board rose.'
