OUR VICTORIAN VISITORS.
The Victorian Commissioners, with the representatives of the Melbourne papers, left Springfield by the early train yesterday. They alighted : at Islington, and were shown over the Avorks' of the Christchurch Meat Company by Mr Gilbert Anderson. They were very favourably impressed .with Avhat they saAV, more especially Avith the manner in which the Avhole of the by-products are utilised.. They commented favourably upon ' the quality of the mutton Avhich they saAV in all the various stages of preparation for export. Mr Best, on behalf of the party, congratulated Mr Anderson on the magnitude and completeness of the works, and wished the company every success. He also expressed the opinion- that, after Avhat he had, seen of the. colony, he Avas satisfied that any scheme for Australian federation. Avliich left New Zealand out would not be complete. The ah si tors were then driven on to Christchurch, and last evening they Avpre entertained at dinner by the Mayor at the Canterbury Club. The chair Avas occupied by the Mayor, avljo was supported on the right by the Hon R. W. Best, and, on the left by the Premier. The vicc-cliair was tilled by Mr C. Lewis, and amongst the other visitors present were— Messrs W. F, Carncross, M.H.R.. and Joyce, M.H.R. They Pave I'pr Dunedin this morning.
