The vessel is uninjured, save that » portion of the false keel has been stripped. The crew stated that they had proceeded to within a short distance of Napier, when they met a heavy south-west gale, that drove them back. The vessel ■ 'was run fox shelter under Long Point, but the gale and sea increased, and both •Dehors were carried away. At the mercy of the waves, the little vessel was then driven up on the beach, and, luckily for -those on board, grounded on the only patch of sand in the vicinity for miles. Had the Mavis not landed just, where she did, she would probably have been dashed , . tp pieces on the rocks, and the lives of the* crew would have been lost. The members of the crew are standing by the vessel, and expect assistance to be sent to ■enable them to refloat her. ; Yesterday afternoon, - while Mr George Hoakin, a farmer at Yaldhurst, was driving sheep, he tripped and fell, fracturing the small bone of Ins right leg. He was taken to the hospital for treatment. An inquest, touching the death of Mary Moxham', whose- body was found in the river Avon yesterday, will bo held this morning at the White Swan Hotel, .. -at 9.30. . ■ ■ Mi 1 R. ' Purchase, of the Prebbleton- , i. Hotel, who was severely injured by an explosion of acetylene gas on Tuesday, April 24, is now ini a critical state.
