SCHOOL COMMITTEES.

The first meeting ’ of the newly elected East Christchurch School Committee was held .on Thursday; ■ present—Messrs J. R. ; Blunt (chairman), S. Clarke, ,D. Lumsdeh, J. Jamieson, J. o. ’Wißiabuy ‘Ha 7 Allison: W. J. Cresswell and J. T. . Smith.. A letter from Mr E. Proctor with regard to a dividing fence between his property and the main school was referred to the Board of Education. The head-mas-ter’s report contained a reply to a letter which appeared in the Press with reference to excessive home lessons, explaining tha« the work complained of was not new work. The following sub-committees were appointed:—Main school, Messrs Brunt,. Smith, Cresswell, Marshall and Allisonr PhillipsCown school, Messrs - Jamieson and Clarke ; South Belt school, Messrs Williams and Lumsden. A vote of thanks was passed to Mr Williams for presenting pictures to the South Belt school. It was resolved that the election of a member of the. Board of Governors of Canterbury College should be held over until next meeting. After passing accounts, the meeting closed.
