LIQUOR AT THE FLORAL FETE.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —I sympathise very much with Mr S. Jones in his protest against the proposal to have intoxicating liquor sold at the floral fete. I would like to remind “One of tho Committee,” who poured so many vials of indignant wrath on. your first correspondent, that we do not object so much for ourselves as on behalf of those who cannot resist the temptation, and also on behalf of the many hundreds of children who will be present. On their account alone the committee should have boon above accepting a paltry £3 for the right tq sell liquor. Although I object to the presence of liquor on Thursday it will rot prevent-me from being present (.os a “Member of the Committed” insinuated), because the object of the gathering is the most laudable one the public of Christchurch have been asked to assist in for some time. lam prouder than ever of our City of the Plains as a result of the Beautifying iSociety’s work, which has made and is making the waste places of our city glad. It is on these grounds that I am the more sorry that the good work is to be assisted by the sale of an article which does more than anything else to mar and spoil the highest work of nature.—l am, etc., -‘ LOVER OP FLOWERS,
