GISBORNE NEWS.
[Per Press Association.! GISBORNE, Oct. 29. At a meeting of the National Association it was unanimously decided to request Mr Pitzroy, Mayor of Hastings, to contest the Waiapu seat at the next election. Thomas Quinlivan, horse owner, reported to the police this morning that he had been robbed of Al6O at the hotel where he was staying. He retired to bed at half past ten, putting his trousers with the money at the head of tho bed. When he awoke at half past five he found the door wide open and tho trousers on the floor. He could not identify any of the money. At a meeting of the Chamber of Commerce resolutions were carried urging the Government to cause a survey to be made for a railway from Gisborne to connect with Rotorua, reminding it of a promise made last year, that a survey would be made, and that the work would be undertaken at ns early a date as possible. The Chamber expressed pleasure at seeing that the Government was now turning its attention to opening up the unoccupied lands of Cook county.
