A SCHOLARSHIP (valued £4O per annum for two years) shall be offered for competition in the month of December, 1898. The Scholarship shall be open to the sons of residents in the district of Canterbury who are between the ages of 17 and 20 on the Ist day of December, 1898. It shall be awarded on the results of the Matriculation Examination of the N.Z. University, and candidates must enter for that examination in accordance with the terms of the University Statute on that behalf. In. awarding the Scholarship, special preference shall be given to the candidate who shall have selected the following subjects for examination, or any one of them, and shall have obtained the highest aggregate of marks in these subjects;—Elementary Physics, Mechanics, Chemistry, Biology. Candidates must send in their names to the Chairman of the Board of Governors on or before the day fixed for sending in their names to the Registrar of the N.Z. University (22nd October), stating their age, and that they come under the definition of being sons of residents in the Provincial District of Canterbury.
