The Rangiora Carpenters and Joiners’ Union, at a meeting held on Saturday evening, decided to accept the award of the Conciliation Board. The masters met the same evening, and resolved to agree to the award, with the exception of the clause that the minimum wage should be 10s per day, 0s being considered a fair amount. It was thought that tho men should agree to this compromise, for tho reason that 2s was too great a rise at one time, and that it would. tend to paralyse trade; that tho time was inopportune for such a rise, as the prospects of work for the winter in the district were not good; that it would prevent works contemplated from being carried out; and that a reasonable notice should have been given before the rise took place, say two or three months. It was decided to forward a letter to the Union in the above terms, in the hope that tho members would see their way to agree to the compromise. Tho dispute in the building trade will be,re-heard before the Board of Conciliation on Tuesday next, June 7, and on the following day the carpenters’ and painters’ disputes/will be dealt with..
