A peculiar feature of the Yarraville tragedy is that M’Carthy’s watch and all his wife’s jewellery were found smashed under the oilcloth in the bedroom. May 15. A boy, the third victim of the Yarraville tragedy, is dead. The mother is recovering. NEW GUINEA CONCESSIONS. SYDNEY, May 14. The announcement that large concessions of land have been granted to a syndicate in New Guinea has caused considerable comment in Government- circles here and in Melbourne, It is considered that the Australian Governments who subscribe to the New Guinea subsidy should have been approached before action was taken in Victoria, and it is suggested to stop the subsidy. Mr Reid is awaiting further information before taking action, SMALLPOX. May 15. Another case of smallpox has occurred at the quarantine station, the sufferer being a passenger by the Orizaba, who refused vaccination.
