THE CHAMPIONSHIP EEGATTA. [Per Peess Association.! DUNEDIN, March 29. Still another instalment of the regatta was got off this evening, when three events were completed as follows, the water being in splendid order: — CHAMPIONSHIP FOURS; first prize £!0, second £10; two miles—Picton E.C. (C. Frederick stroke, F. Seymour, T. M’Cormick, A. Smith, A. Stow cox), 1; Queen’s Drive (W. Smith, T. M'Donald, W. Porter, A. Bell, J. Ward cox), 2. Port Chalmers also started. From a good start, Port Chalmers got away with the lead. Queen’s Drive at once put ima claim, and led for two-thirds of the distance, with Picton close up. Picton, rowing splendidly, spurted and got the nose of their boat in front, maintaining their advantage to the end, winning by about a foot, with Port Chalmers the same distance behind Queen’s Drive. No time was taken, as the start could not be seen, but it must have been good. CHAMPION SCULLS; first prize £lO, second £3; one mile and a half —J. P. M’Grath, Dunedin 8.C., 1; C. Chapman, Wairewa, 2. Crosbie, Y.M.C.A., also started. Another fine . race. M’Grath was leading when two-thirds of- the distance had been traversed. Chapman put on a fine spurt, but steered out of the course. He got back again, but rowed himself to a standstill, M’Grath. winning by a length. No time was taken. CHAMPION PAXES; first prize £ls, second £5; one mile and a half—Wellington E.C. (Calnan and Crawford),!; North End (Burk and Breen), 2; Port E.C. (Bauchop and Platts), 3. The finish took place in the dark, and the judge had to call the competitors to identify them. It is not known how much the winners were in front.
The Double Sculls will be rowed in the morning.
