THE FROZEN MEAT TRADE.
A meeting of those interested in the export of frozen meat was held in the hall of the Chamber of Commerce last evening, for the purpose of further discussing the question of forming a Frozen Meat Exporters 5 Association ; present —Mr W. Eeece (in the chair) and Messrs G. P. Martin, A. H. Turnbull, F. Waymouth, W. D. Wood, G. Anderson, J. Eeid, J. A. Eandall, J. Gould, A. Kaye, G. Jameson and P. H. Pyne. Mr W. J). Meares wrote forwarding a letter from Mr E. N. Findlay, of Williamstown, on the frozen meat export trade, its defects and their remedy. Mr Turnbull moved —“That those present form themselves into an Association, to be called the New Zealand Frozen Meat Trade Association, and that the objects of the Association shall be— (a) To promote and protect the interests of the frozen meat trade; (b) to afford such assistance to members of the Association as may be considered advisable in supporting or opposing any' matter affecting the general welfare of the trade ; (c) to make such rules and regulations for the benefit of the Association as may be considered advisable. 55 This was seconded by Mr Jameson. Considerable discussion took place as to whether the proposed Association should have its headquarters in Christchurch or whether the promoters should ‘ form a Canterbury branch and invite other centres to do the same. The resolution was carried. Mr Jameson then moved—“ That the Association shall consist of exporters and others interested in the trade; an exporter to be defined as any firm or person being a shipper of frozen meat. 55 This was seconded by Mr Anderson and carried. On the motion of Mr Kaye, seconded by Mr Pyne, Messrs Jameson, Eeid, Anderson, Waymouth, Wood and Turnbull were appointed a sub-committee to draw up a circular for submission to Chambers of Commerce in the colony and also to the secretaries of other Frozen Meat Companies. The same committee was empowered to confer with delegates from other parts of the colony on the subject, to draw up draft rules to be, submitted to a future meeting of the Association, and generally to act as an organising, committee for the formation and extension of the Association. Mr Jameson was appointed convener. Mr W. M. Ollivier consented to act as interim secretary.
