CHRISTCHURCH HOSPITAL.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, — Some time has elapsed since the Hospital Board met and elected a nurse from the Wellington Hospital to the vacant position as matron and housekeeper, and passed the acting-matron, Miss Hewitt, over, though she has been in the Christchurch Hospital, so far as I know, for over twenty years. I had expected that some abler writer than myself would have written about this matter before now, but as nobody has done so, I have taken the liberty. Having been for a short time a patient in the hospital, I can bear testimony to the acting-matron’s kindness and ability; and I think, and do not hesitate to say, that the Board have treated that lady far from right. lam sure that they could not have found a better matron and housekeeper, and I can fully endorse the remarks of Mr Gray, that it was against his will that an outsider had been nominated. Taking the nurses in the Christchurch Hospital all through, I think it would be difficult to find a kinder and more attentive staff of nurses in New Zealand, —I am, &c., A. BLOCK.
