CAIRO, March 23,
An Egyptian patrol came in contact with a body of Dervish horsemen, eleven miles up the river from Atbara. The Dervishes attacked the Egyptians, hut were repulsed with heavy loss. The Egyptian artillery shelled the enemy with great effect. Seven Egyptians were killed. The Dervish camp fires-are visible about eighteen miles distant from Atbara.
