CANTERBURY AMATEUR ATHLETIC CLUB.
A meeting of the .Committee of the Canterbury Amateur Athletic Club was held at the City Hotel last evening; present—Dr Jennings (who presided), Dr Thomas, Messrs H. S. Batchelor, F. 0. Smith, J. U. Collins, L. W. Harley, F. W. Johnston and D. Hoare (honorary secretary). Apologies for absence were received from Messrs A. H. Anderson and H. R. Homan. A motion of regret was passed concerning Mr P. H. Harley’s illness. The resignation of Mr F. P. Gibson was accepted with regret. A letter was received from the Hon Hill Trevor, in answer to a letter from the Secretary asking the Governor’s patronage to the club’s sports on April 16. It stated that his Excellency would not be in Christchurch on that date, but would be glad to accept the position of patron. Tho following new members were elected Messrs J. H. Phillips, J. A. Alexander, J. Kennedy, E. M. Vickerman and A. Simpson. Offers of special prizes were received from Messrs A. E. G. Rhodes, John Thornton, D. Thomas, W. Reece, Jones and Son, the Dunlop Tyre Company and the Anglo-New Zealand Cycle Company. It was resolved, in view of alterations suggested by volunteer officers, that the military items on the programme should be referred to Colonel Gordon and the volunteer officers, and the circulars should be sent to the commanding officers of corps. A letter was received from the New Zealand Amateur Athlatic Association in answer to a letter with regard to the club adding cash cycle races to its programme. The Association informed the club that it would not be permitted to include races where cash was offered, on any programme run under New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association’s rules. The Secretary reported the balance at the bank to be £22, and the outstanding subscriptions numbered about fifty. The meeting then terminated.
