AMATEUR ROWING ASSOCIATION.

[Per Press Association.! WELLINGTON, March 16. At a meeting of the Appeal Council of the Amateur Bowing Association, further correspondence was received from the Dunedin Amateur Boating- Club in reference to the decision that Wright was not eligible to row for that club. The Council decided to adhere to its former decision that, as Wright was a life-member of the Queen's Drive Club within three months of the date of the regatta, he could not, therefore, under rule 12, row for another club in the same rowing centre. The case of Bonnor, a member of the Port Chalmers Bowing Club, who was stroke of the winning crew at the regatta on the occasion of the Waikare’s trip to the Sounds, and who had, consequently, been declared to have lost his amateur status, but had been recommended to apply for reinstatement at the annual meeting of the Association, was reconsidered at the urgent request of the Port Chalmers Club. It was pointed; out that Bonnor was stroke of their Maiden crew, and formed one of the club’s Champion pair, and that the decision was a disastrous one for them. The club also protested against the decision as opposed to the riding of the Appeal Council on a similar case in October last. After considerable discussion the Council decided it could not see its way to alter its decision. It has been suggested that the difficulty can be got over by the club applying for reinstatement at a special general meeting of the Association, to be held the night before the regatta, instead of waiting for the annual meeting.
