THRIFT.
TO THE EDITOR.
Sib, —In the Times of Dec. 4 you published a note from Professor Bickerfcon, introducing ’ extracts from a letter the Professor has received from “a distinguished scholar and scientist.” Will Professor Bickerton be good enough to give us the name of this distinguished scholar who writes vulgar English, and who makes the following statement, which is absolutely false: —“There are thousands of manufacturers ready to make room for you ( ix tho thrifty man), by sacking the labourer who lives on luxuries and cannot afford to work cheaply.”—l am, &c., JOHN SPEED.
