A new body of quartz showing gold has just been met with on the Chicago claim, at Tararu, giving an assay value of .£317.

The Chicago Gold-mining Syndicate, Tararu Creek, Thames, whose head-quarters are in Christchurch, received a telegram on Oct. 19 that a large body of quartz had been struck in the No. 2 drive at 143 ft from the surface, the reef being 4ft 6in wide and a splendid class of quartz. Two tons were broken out on Oct. 22 and treated at the May Queen Extended battery, for a return of 6oz 14dwt smelted gold. On Nov. 9 the following telegram was received:—“Cut second large body quartz; gold freely seen when breaking down. Assay being made at School of Mines, Thames.” On Nov. 10 the following was telegraphed Assay quartz. School of Mines: 78oz gold, 68oz silver, value £317 per ton.”
