THE WOMEN’S SOCIAL AND POLITICAL LEAGUE.

This League met on Monday evening at the Art Gallery. It was unanimouslyresolved to appoint Mrs C. B. Chambers to the position of assistant honorary secretary to the League. Art union tickets were received from the committee of the Eight Hours Demonstration, to take place in Wellington in October next. The Secretary was instructed to acknowledge their receipt, and to place them in the hands of the members of the League. A case of hardship was brought before the League, that of a, widow, with a family, unable to pay her rates, and a deputation was appointed to interview the Mayor on the subject. In view of the present prevailing immorality in Wellington, it was resolved to call the attention of the Government to the fact, and to urge the passage of some measure whereby parents shall be made responsible for the prevention of juvenile depravity, and also that the law relating to the age of . consent should he strictly enforced. Letters of welcome and congratulation to the Premier and Mrs Seddon respectively were read and ordered to be forwarded. They referred specially to the Premier’s presence and services. in England during the Record Reign proceedings, and to the interest taken in the Premier's efforts by the League on publio grounds, and because Mrs Seddon was the League’s president. The letters, cordially welcomed the Premier, Mrs Seddon and the Misses Seddon back to New Zealand.
