At the Goodwood Meetftag the race for the Goodwood Cup resulted as follows Mr Lehaudi’s Count Sohomberg 1, Duke of Westminster’s Labrador 2, Prince of Wales’s Oakdene 3. TROTTING CONFERENCE. WELLINGTON, July 30. .The Trotting Conference adopted a- constitution on the basis of, 1 clubs witxi two or more meetings a year. sending .two delegates, and the others one each. Several minor alterations were ,made in the rules, and it was decided th at horses trotting atracing or sports meetings not licensed hy the Association, together with their owners,, trainers and riders, should he disqualified.. A motion to expunge the rule permittingpony racing, at trotting meetings was lost. A referee was appointed, and the official calendar was attended to. A new rule respecting protests -was added, and the clause amended making the acceptors of totalisator odds equally liable to punishment with the layers, and disqualifications are to take eft'ectimmediatelyfihedecisionis announced. It was resolved that in a race where the winner of a race which is disqualified had distanced the other horses the race should be re-run. The rule relating to the Trainers’ and Jockeys’ Fund was deleted. After several minor alterations in the rules in regard to the conduct of meetings had been adopted, a committee was set up to wait on the Colonial Secretary, asking for additional permits to use the totalisator. The number to be asked for- is thirty-five. ■ The Conference, which will meet in Wellington next year, then broke up. NAPIER, July. 30. Captain Russell has been re-elected nresident of the Hawke’s Bay Jockey Club. The Club will -give .£5560 in stakes during the coming season.

Montacute followed once round at three-quarter pace, and Colebeck traversed, twice this distance at a similar rate of speed. Gillie covered two rounds at a strong half-pace, while Sprig of Myrtle,, accompanied by Warrington, negotiated a similar distance, • finishing fast. The latter - pulled up sore. Mutiny and Penrose went three times round, finishing the second fast and trotting and cantering the last. Monte Carlo covered one round steadily, and went on for another at three-quarter pace. Justice brushed along over the last, six furlongs of two rounds, while Rangefinder galloped a mile fast, and Bradshaw negotiated one at half pace and another at three-quarter speed. Hobbs’s hunter accomplished three-quarter-pace work twice round, and Chaos strong half-pace work twice round. Skirmisher moved freely over a couple of circuits at half-pace, while Piccolo was accompanied by Longfellow in a gallop over six furlongs. Ballyhooley went three times round the plough with sweaters on, and Tally-ho traversed one round at half-pace and another at threequarter speed. Quiltiri and Arquebus went twice round at half pace, galloping' the last mile fast, and Lord of Misrule and Alcestis spurted half a mile, the latter haying all the best of the-gallop. Te Kooti strode ■ three times round with sweaters oii, and Violence, moving freely, i galloped about a mile and a half. Highlander; with sweaters on, went three times round the plough, the first time steady and the second and third at three-quarter pace. He tired tswards the finish. The Friar and. Kaitoa covered two rounds, finishing the i last fast, while .the half-brother to Boreas, 1 Golden Plover, Clarencej Rahi, Wedlock, Jewel, Jib, K'aiti, Erin, Dentist, Kingswood, ; Levanter, Morag, Muscatel, Dummy, 1 Fireworks, Umslopogaas, Ulysses, Social .Pest, Voltigenr,. Agent-General, Nanakia, . Will-if-I-Can and Mannlicher all did halfpace work twice and three times round. Salvo Shot was restricted to walking exer‘cise., All the new arrivals look well.
