LICENSING REFORM.
TO THE EDITOR. " Sir, —It is a great pity that the prohibitionists cannot expend their energy upon reforming drunkards. lt : is perfectly sickening to read the quibbles of some of these fanatics. Mr Paik seems to take no account in his Mildura estimate of the hundreds of gallons that are sold on the sly. It would be nearer the mark to say that the river steamers were supplied by these illicit stills, and helped to swell the sale of spirits both up and down the rivers, and all the district half-way to Bendigo or Swanhill. The prohibitionists could work wonders if they would start Homes, where people who* cannot- control their desire for drink could be cured of the habit. I suppose they. will, deny directly that Kansas has now a fullblown “ pub.” in existence, and I expect it will-be on the Gothenburg system;—-Tam-, &0., MODERATE.
