SYDNEY, July 29. 1 The Minister of Justice has received a cable message from the Agent-General in reply to an inquiry with reference to the anti-betting decision in the’ English Courts. He states that the judgments proceeded upon an ejusdem generis construction, but did not in terms hold that a betting place should be structural. No definition of “place” was given, but according to the general effect of conflicting judgments, it must be a place analagousin character and use to a betting house or office. EICCARTON TRAINING NOTES. - Thursday. The earlier hours of tiffs morning were very -cold,: but when the sun rose the weather was quite spring-like. Cutts was first to commence by sending Colebeck once round at three-quarter pace. Manawanui had. Salvo Shot as companion in a gallop over a mile, both finishing together. Sprig of Myrtle and Warrington in company went twice round at half-pace, brushing home fast over the last five furlongs. Ballyhooley had the assistance of. the halfbrother to Boreas over the last seven furlongs of once round. Jib and Jewel galloped six furlongs fast,-finishing in the order named, while Justice went twice round, brushing .down.the straight,at top. Quiltiri And Arquebus covered two rounds at half pace, spurting the last half-mile, at top; and: Tally-ho covered a similar distance, the first round at half pace and the second at three-quarter speed. Violence brushed along fast over the last round of two, and Umslopogaas galloped a mile and a quarter at top, moving in capital style. Te Jtooti covered three', rounds steadily with sweaters- on, while Highlander strode along strongly over the last round of two, and 'klcestis galloped the lasffive furlongs of Wo rounds on ..the cinders. Chaos galloped a mile fast, Jorrooks moved along smartly over the last round of two, and Eahi negotiated two at threequarter, .pace. Montacute, .Rangefinder, Piccolo, Social Pest, Gillie, Erin, Wedlock, Muscatel, Fireworks, Hobbs’s hunter, Bradshaw, Agept-General, Marquis • of Zetland, Dummy, Clarence, Kaitoa, The Friar and Lord of Misrule all did steady work. Dummy was out yesterday afternoon, hut was restricted to walking exercise;' 'Mutiny and Penrose did nothing more than walking exercise this morning.
