The German Government are adopting a system of postage without the use of stamps. They issue a contrivance which stamps an official mark on all letters passed through it and registers the amount of postage due, working in much the same way as a gas-meter. As a Christmas present to an Indiana farmer four boys were born on December 23, who were named after leaders of the Silverite party, beginning with Messrs Bryan and Sewall.
