SELWYN COUNTY COUNCIL.

A meeting of the Sclwyn County Council was held yesterday morning; present— Messrs E. Westenra (chairman), J. G. Murray, G. Rutherford, J. Wolfe, G. H. M’Haffie, J. Gough, W. Boag and J. Eeniue. Mr Bishop, S.M., wrote stating, that he would hold the inquiry for the purpose of fixing the maintenance of tho Selwyn bridge on Friday next. Mr W. Phillips was appointed a member of the Weedon Domain Board, and Mr W. Dunlop a member of the Cashmere Hills Board. The Mayor of New Brighton and Mr G. M’lntyro waited on the Council on behalf of the New Brighton Borough. They asked the Council to assist tho Borough in obtaining control of that part of reserve 1579, which lay within the boundaries of the New Brighton Borough. It was decided to defer consideration of tho matter until the next meeting of tho Council. The Geraldine County Council wrote asking that the police might be allowed to continue tho work of of dogs. They had never had tho worlTffis well performed as by the police. It was decided to carry out tho request if possible, conditional on the consent of Government.

Sir John Hall waited on the Council and informed them that 34,000 trees were dead in the Eockwood Plantation. He offered tho Council 16,000 insignis trees, 8000 other trees and a quantity of seed of the weeping gum. Sir John also offered to undertake the supervision of the planting. Sir John Hall’s offer was accepted with thanks. ! After dealing with plantation, waterrace and slaughterhouse reports, the Council passed accounts for £929 11s 3d.
