LICENSING ELECTIONS.

[Pek Pekss Association.] WELLINGTON, March 23. There is likely to be an imbroglio over the Suburbs licensing election, as -the ballot' papers are nob printed in strict alphabetical sequence. The Temperance Party claim that this will specially affect them, as they have -issued tickets properly printed, and the effect will be misleading. A protest was sent to the Keturning-ofScer, but he is alleged to have taken no notice of it, and legal proceedings are threatened.

There is very little interest shown in the election of a licensing committee for the Kaiapoi district, which takes place tomorrow. There are eight candidates, and an effort to induce three to 'withdraw failed, only two being willing. No poll was required in the Timaru licensing district for the recent election, as only five candidates were nominated. The Borough Council, therefore, showed considerable surprise on receiving an account for £l*7 4s for election expenses from the Eeturning-offioer, and decided not to pay it until details were supplied.
