The police have identified Butler as a marl who, under the name of Ashe, was sentenced to eighteen months’ imprisonment on a charge of having stolen property in Ids possession. While awaiting trial Ashe told Sergeant Gee that he had lain at a street corner all one night with a revolver intending to shoot him when he passed, but Gee did not come that night.
