HARBOUR BOARD ELECTIONS.

LYTTELTON. A great deal of interest was evinced in the city yesterday, and the number of-votes recorded during the earlier part of the day was somewhat larger than had been anticipated. As to the result, opinions appeared to be much divided. Mr H. Thomson acted as retnrning-officer, and the poll closed at 6 p.m.:—The following is the result of the poll: Christchurch —P. Graham 1073, R. Pitcaithly 1034, R. M. Macdonald 544, W. H. Cooper 492. Lyttelton—T. M’Clatohio 247, N. Schumacher 121. United Boroughs of Linwood, Woolston and Sumner —E. R. Deacon 316, J. Connal 314. Messrs F. Graham and R. Pitcaithly, the retiring members, for Christchurch; Mr T. M’Clatchie, the retiring member, for Lyttelton; and Mr E. R. Deacon, for the boroughs of Linwood, Woolston and Sumner, were declared duly elected. At the meeting of the Selwyn County Council, yesterday morning, it was decided to re-elect Messrs D. M’Millan and W. Dunlop as the Council’s representatives on the Harbour Board. The Ashburton County Council has reelected Mr E. G . Wright as its representative upon the Board. WAIMAKARIRI. The" result of the polling at Kaiapoi for two members to represent the borough on the Waimakariri Harbour Board was as follows:—W. E. Parnham, 110; J. A. Hayman, 107; E. Peldwick, 67; R. H. Mathews, 62. Messrs Parnham and Hayman were declared duly elected. TIMARU. Messrs Moss Jonas, E. R. Guinness and W. Evans have been re-elected members to represent Timaru on the Harbour Board. [Per Press Association.] INVERCARGILL, Feb. 8. More than usual interest was taken in the Bluff Harbour Board elections to-day, and two of the late members wore defeated. Eor Invercargill, Messrs J. E. Watson and J. W. Mitchell were returned, the sitting member, Mr Angus M’Lean, being defeated. For the suburban borough Mr Andrew Bain supplants Mr E. Pollard, who has been on the Board for several years. The Lake County Council returned the Hon J. G. Ward, and Wallace County Captain Stevens. There was acrimonious feeling displayed over the election of the Southland County representative, and Mr J. W. Raymond was elected by the casting vote of the Chairman. ■ Messrs Ward and Raymond and Captain Stevens were former members. Mr Waddel def eated Mr Roberts at the port.
