LAWN TENNIS.

An enjoyable and exciting game was played on Saturday at the Linwood Lawn Tennis Club's courts, the occasion being the final round between Miss M. Simpson and Miss’F. Ridley for a trophy presented by the President of the Club (Mr C. Palairet), the match being the best of three sets (no advantage sets). Miss Simpson owing Miss Ridley f-lij. The game was full of interest throughout. Miss Eidloy obtained a strong lead in the first set of five games to two, but Miss Simpson gradually drew up to her opponent and won a splendid set by six games to five. In the second set Miss Ridley again went away with a strong lead and, maintaining it, won by six games to three. The third set was most exciting. Miss Simpson got a strong load of four games to two, but Miss Eidley stuck to her opponent and gradually drew r level, making four games all. Miss Simpson -won the fifth game, but Miss Eidley was not to bo denied and again drew level, and, playing well, won the sixth game and set, thus winning the match. The match was one of the longest ever played on the Club’s courts, lasting three hours and a half. Miss Ker kindly dispensed afternoon tea.
