The Works Committee’s recommendation that a concrete culvert be put down over the drain at the junction of William and Victoria Street, was adopted. It was resolved “That in the opinion of .the Council tho trial of tho steam fix-e engine on Monday evening proved it to be in first-class working order.” A proposal to attach a check valve to the suction hose of the engine to render it more efficient in drawing water from deep Avells was referred to the Brigade Committee. Busch’s property, some distance from tho town, unless reasonable expenses were guaranteed, the offer of tho owner being the use of a horse to di’aw the engine and two gallons of beer for the men. The Fire Brigade Committee was asked to draw up a scale of charges for the iuse of the engine outside tho borough within a mile of tho town belts. The receipts for the month were reported to be J 3163 18s 7d, and the bank credit balance AGI Os 6d. Accounts amounting to £52 19s 9d were passed for payment. Mr G. Attention was drawn to the fact of 7220 acres of the Ashley river bed, from the Railway bridge up stream, having been gazetted as a public domain. Councillor Good stated that he understood tho domain would be under the control of. a special Board, elected from the local governing bodies in districts adjacent to the river.
