CHRISTCHURCH. Saturday, Jan. 30. (Before Mr H. W. Bishop, S.M.) Drunkenness. Margaret Isles alias Thomas alias M’Donald, an old offender, was sentenced to one month’s imprisonment with hard labour for having been guilty of disorderly behaviour while drunk. —Harry Harries was charged with a similar offence. His wife is living apart from him, and lie had, while drunk, gone to her house and led his horse into the kitchen. The accused was cautioned to keep away from his wife, and was fined 5s and costs, in default forty-eight hours’ imprisonment. Vagrancy. —Annie Wilson Boby was charged, on remand, with having insufficient lawful means of support. She pleaded not guilty. ' Evidence was called to show that during the last three or four months the girl, who is only about seventeen years of age, had been constantly in the company of prostitutes. In November last she had been convicted of theft, and had been placed on probation on condition that she went to the Salvation Army Homo, but after being there three or four days she absconded. His Worship said said he would nominally sentence the girl to one month’s imprisonment, and then take steps to have her brought under one of the sections of the Industrial Schools Act.— Minnie Harwood (17) was also charged with having insufficient lawful means of support. She pleaded guilty, and was dealt with in the same manner as the last prisoner. Assault and Damaging Property.— John M’Taggart was charged with having, on Jan. 29, broken the panel of a door, value 10s, the property of George Evans ; and also with having assaulted his wife, Grace M’Taggart. The evidence for the prosecution was that the previous night Mrs M’Taggart had been at the house of some friends of hers (Mr and Mrs Evans), being, as she said, afraid of her husband.

The accused came to the house and broke the door, caught his wife and struck her severely about the face, marking her badly. For breaking the door, the accused was fined ss, and ordered to pay for the damage, in default seven days’ imprisonment ; and for assaulting his' wife, was sentenced to one month’s imprisonment with hard labour.

KAIAPOL Saturday, Jan. 30. (Before Mr J. L. Wilson, J.P.) Alleged Larceny. —A boy, aged thirteen, named Brown, was remanded to Monday, to appear before Mr Bishop, to answer the charges of stealing a watch, a horse and several other articles from Mr Etherington’s farm, at Ohoka. The lad, who is from Burnham, pleaded guilty to all the charges.
