THE FRUIT-GROWERS' CONFERENCE.
[Per Press Association.];
NELSON, Dec. 28. , A meeting of the Nelson Horticultural Society was held to-night, to consider a circular from the Agricultural Department relative to the Fruit-growers’ Conference at Brisbane. It was resolved to nominate as delegates Mr B. Noller, of Nelson, and Mr A. Laurie, of Teviot. It was also resolved that, while acknowledging the efforts of the Department, the Society considered it desirable that an annual conference of fruit-growers should be held in New Zealand, taking place in a different centre each year, to consider means of dealing with insect and fungus pests, and other matters of interest to fruit-growers. It was also resolved to request the Government to prohibit the introduction of grape cuttings, and take every precaution to prevent the introduction of phylloxera. The society will endeavour to send exhibits of nuts to Brisbane.
